Detailed Radiation Survey Of Fukushima Prefecture Begins

The focus of the survey will be over the areas in the 20km zone near Fukushima Daiichi. Over 3000 points will be checked with 400 in Iitate village. The survey will be done with both unmanned helicopters and cars. The state goal is to plan decontamination measures. This may be due to IAEA suggestions that Japan focus decontamination on locations where people will most come in contact with radiation.  This article would not be possible without the extensive efforts of the SimplyInfo research team Join the conversation at chat.simplyinfo.org All content is copyright SimplyInfo.org. Deer In Tochigi Contaminated With Radiation

Wild deer found in Tochigi, south west of Fukushima prefecture tested positive for radiation contamination. The deer were found to have 590 to 2037 becquerels per kilogram in their meat. A quick map estimate shows this location to be over 150km away from the plant and closer to Tokyo than to the plant. If deer this far away are testing significantly over the limit what does this say about farm animal contamination? Or over all contamination outside of the evacuation zone? Fewer Think Returning Home Is An Option, Namie Officals Still Dream Of Return

A recent NHK survey found an increasing number of evacuees think returning home won’t happen or would be extremely difficult to do. Meanwhile officials for Namie, a town 9km from the plant, take periodic readings in the city. They admit that the extremely high levels and only small declines in radiation would make it difficult for people to return. They still hold out hope the government would provide decontamination for the town. How realistic that hope is remains to be seen.
