High Levels Of Contamination Found Outside Evacuation Zone

MEXT has released more contamination level data that shows considerably high levels outside the 20km evacuation zone, mostly concentrated in a north west path. As data has been coming out recently the north west path has shown to have taken considerable fallout over the last six months. There were also soil samples taken, these showed levels outside the evacuation zone in 66 locations exceeded the evacuation threshold used in Chernobyl. Okuma is 30km from the plant and showed millions of becquerels on the soil sample tests. Namie and Iitate were showing high levels on the MEXT sampling information, both are outside the evacuation zone. Some of this area to the north and west had been evacuated, but there are still people in this northwest stretch that the government has not done anything … Read entire article »

Large Amount Of Plutonium In Date City 60km From Fukushima Daiichi

SPA Magazine has now uncovered that “several thousand” becquerels of neptunium-239 was found in Date City. neptunium-239 evolves into plutonium-239 that has a half life of 24,200 years. These findings show that Date City has a significant plutonium contamination that neither TEPCO or the government are aware of or admitting. It was previously disclosed by the same magazine that Iitate-Mura had the same kinds of heavy plutonium contamination. This is a big problem, plutonium has some serious health risks  and it is being found in large amounts 60km from the plant. The government and TEPCO have been trying to focus public attention on first iodine-131 and now on cesium-137. They rarely test for or mention stronium-90 or plutonium-239, two isotopes that are considerably more dangerous. The nuclear research that discovered the findings … Read entire article »

High Levels Of Radiation Showing Up In Sea And Fukushima Residents

Again flying in the face of TEPCO’s claims everything is fine, large levels of radiation are showing up in the region. Some Fukushima residents based on their location after the melt downs received large radiation doses in the range of three times the national limit. The more shocking part is that they are from the 30km zone, not the 20km evacuation zone. “The researchers estimated that radiation levels in the area during the two months before the evacuations came to 50 millisieverts.” Some residents received doses from 57 to 69 mSv. Some parts of Fukushima City read at 3.2 mSv yet the city is trying to go on as business as usual. Researchers at the JAEA have done their own estimates on sea releases during the early months and found levels at 15,000 terabecquerels. TEPCO … Read entire article »

Deer In Tochigi Contaminated With Radiation

Wild deer found in Tochigi, south west of Fukushima prefecture tested positive for radiation contamination. The deer were found to have 590 to 2037 becquerels per kilogram in their meat. A quick map estimate shows this location to be over 150km away from the plant and closer to Tokyo than to the plant. If deer this far away are testing significantly over the limit what does this say about farm animal contamination? Or over all contamination outside of the evacuation zone? Extremely Radioactive Mushrooms Found In Fukushima

Wild mushrooms with 28,000 bq/kg of radiation were found by the Citizen Radiation Measuring Station in Fukushima. Considering the already high food limit is 500 bq/kg, these are extremely high. Mushrooms are radiation sponges, wild mushrooms in parts of Europe are still off limits due to high radiation from Chernobyl 25 years ago. Ex-SKF has all the details and both Japanese and English of the original news article. The Puzzling Hot Spot Evacuations In Date And Minamisoma

The Wall Street Journal explores the strange situation of evacuation by hot spot going on in areas outside the 20km exclusion zone. Government officials use a set of two tests in the yard and front door, purposely ignoring areas where radiation concentrates to declare who evacuates. This approach has caused one neighbor to be allowed to evacuate while others left to deal with the situation with no help. Many times the difference in readings are very small leading to more anxiety and confusion. Those told to stay are told to limit their time outdoors, don’t go to parks or the forest. This odd lottery of who gets help and who doesn’t has caused anxiety and strained relations between neighbors. In one bizarre situation, two homes on a family plot that … Read entire article »

Citizen Created Radiation Map Of Tokyo

People in the Tokyo area have compiled their radiation readings into a crowd sourced Google Map. The map has detailed instructions in the comments about how the samples were tested and how citizen contributors should do so. The project began back in mid-May. Citizen crowd sourced projects like this enable people to have a better understanding of their true risk and serve as a fact check on government reports. Japan Ministry of Health Food & Water Testing Results

New government food and water testing results are out. Some contamination found included wheat in Hokkaido, raw milk in Miyagi and fish off the Fukushima coast. Some river fish in Miyagi were also found to be contaminated. Milk in Gunma, fish and tea in Kanagawa and fish off Iwaki-shi coast. Almost all the fish tested in Minamisoma were contaminated, some considerably. In cattle testing one unexpected result was from Akita with 3 testing over 300 bq/kg. Yahoo Adds Radiation Monitor Network in Japan

Keio University and Yahoo Japan have teamed up to create a live radiation reading network. The network is primarily in the region closer to the plant but also includes areas such as Chiba, where citizens had been finding troubling evidence of radiation. Yahoo plans to expand upon the existing 11 stations in the future. The current site updates every 5 minutes and includes a mobile version. http://radiation.yahoo.co.jp/ This article would not be possible without the extensive efforts of the SimplyInfo research team Join the conversation at chat.simplyinfo.org All content is copyright SimplyInfo.org. Video: Creating A Contamination Map In Japan

The excellent NHK documentary follows a radiation scientist as he tracks the fallout around Japan from Fukushima Daiichi.  Kimora worked for METI and was told to refrain from any research unless they gave him permission. Kimora quit METI and is independently researching the radiation fallout with the help of other scientists.  This important video shows the very real danger and the struggle of scientists to properly document what is going on. The shocking radiation levels found in this video flies in the face of the official record by government agencies. WSPEEDI Shows Tokyo Under Radioactive Plume on March 15

Japanese blog Ex-SKF continues to do great work on the Fukushima crisis.  Being researched and written by a Japanese source who speaks and reads the language gives it one less layer of Babel. Japan’s ever-sneaky Ministry of Education and Science again quietly released 3 sets of simulation maps of WSPEEDI without any press release nor any explanation; this time it was the simulations that they did on March 15. The Reactor 3 that used MOX fuel blew up on March 14 at 11:01AM JST.
