Workers Exposed To Penetrating Beta Radiation At Fukushima

Two workers and possibly a third were exposed to penetrating beta radiation while changing filters in the water clean up systems at Fukushima Daiichi.

They were pulling submerged components and were exposed to 23.4 – 17.1 mSv of radiation. It is not clear what their actual internal dose is, all three are undergoing more tests.

In the rush to build decontamination equipment shielding and safe maintenance seem to have been an afterthought and are now causing issues for the workers running the systems.
